Autobots
Optimus Prime
First appearance: More Than Meets The Eye pt1
Profile: If he had been on Earth, he would be a doctor, a mechanic, a scientist and a warrior. But on Cybertron there is no difference between these professions. So Optimus uses his skills to heal and repair - which are the same things to Autobots - to improve the world around him and, if necessary, to fight. Both in power and intelligence, he has no equal. He has the personality of an Abraham Lincoln. He can be immensely kind and his compassion extends to all that lives, including the creatures of Earth. Yet he will battle unceasingly to protect the weak and defend what he believes in. To accomplish this, Optimus knows that the Decepticons must be defeated for all time.
Quote: "Freedom is the right of all sentient beings."

Rodimus Prime
First appearance: Transformers: The Movie
Profile: Rodimus Prime is the mature, transformed persona of Hot Rod. This transformation and simultaneous assumption of the Autobot leadership occured in a major battle between the Autobots and Decepticons. It is as Rodimus Prime that Hot Rod defeated Unicron and restored order to the galaxy. Rodimus Prime speaks with the savvy of a seasoned veteran. He can be hot-heated at times - he has a tendency to act first and ask questions later. Rodimus Prime's sole purpose is to protect all life.
Quote: "Experience is the benchmark of maturity."

Ultra Magnus
First appearance: Transformers: The Movie
Profile: Ultra Magnus is all soldier. He is most comfortable when he is carrying out Optimus Prime's orders - giving it all of his magnificent fighting skills, courage and gift for battlefield improvisation. And he is uncomfortable when the mantle of leadership is placed over his broad shoulders. He sees himself as a follower, not a commander, and is reluctant to assume authority until it is clear that he has no choice but to lead. And when he does finally lead, he is resolute, fair and courageous beyond reproach. He is ever-ready to sacrifice himself for the good of his companions and mission, and unstinting in his preparedness so that his "people" will be as protected as possible.
Quote: "Consistency is victory."

Perceptor
First appearance: Dinobot Island
Profile: Perceptor's thirst for knowledge is unquenchable. He will seek it to the exclusion of all else. To him, being on Earth is like a miner finding a new vein of gold - each eagerly plumbs untold riches, neither knowing when his source will run out, if ever. Perceptor's specific role in the Autobot cause is studying how best the Autobots should adapt to Earth, and conversely how Earth's alien environment is affecting the Autobots. Autobot Leader Optimus Prime considers this research vital to the Autobots' survival as long as they're marooned on Earth. Although good-natured and friendly, Perceptor is not easily drawn into joining with other Autobots to do anything other than his work.
Quote: "One's ultimate truth lies in one's molecular structure."

Hot Rod
First appearance: Transformers: The Movie
Profile: Hot Rod is the all-American-boy Autobot. Not too sweet, not too sharp, not too snotty... not a goodie-goodie, but basically a typical adolescent who has dreams of doing great stuff and being as heroic and important as Optimus Prime and other famous and revered top Autobots. He tends to follow rules until they bug him - and he sometimes learns, to his regret, that disobeying wasn't exactly smart. And he often acts without thinking in an effort to do the right thing - and this gets him and sometimes his friends in trouble. But he's not afraid when trouble does arrive and is a brave and honorable fighter and friend. He is especially close to Kup, the grizzled old mentor of an Autobot, although he sometimes resents hearing "wisdom." And he likes Daniel, the Earth kid, a lot. (In a way, Hot Rod is big brother to Daniel - a role model - and Hot Rod knows it and takes the responsibility seriously.) In robot or automotive mode, Hot Rod is sometimes hot-headed, but always a well-meaning, admirable "lad" and popular with all who know him.
Quote: "My actions speak louder than words."

Wreck Gar
First appearance: Transformers: The Movie
Profile: Wreck-Gar is the leader of the Junkions, and like his people, is a creature comprised of rusted scraps, dented odds and ends, chassis bits, and manifold parts - a walking, very powerful and all but indestructible Junkbot, i.e., a robot of junk. When he is hit by laser blasts and falls apart, he reassembles himself out of the junky remains of his body and available junk heaps that constitute the structure of his planetoid, and keeps right on coming. And his speech and attitudes are also a junkyard-like collection of languages and broadcast fragments overheard from all over the universe - scraps of T.V. commercials, soap opera dialogue, old song lyrics and valentine inscriptions merged with quotations from history given out of context. As Wreck-Gar might say, "Holy Mackeral, Mrs. Olson, your mountain-grown easy-listening sidekick, kimosabe, wishes you have a nice industrial-strength day. Film at eleven or not."
Quote: "Collect and save, collect and save."

Metroplex
First appearance: Five Faces of Darkness
Profile: Possessed of startling versatility and staggering strength, Metroplex is the robot they depend on when all other options are exhausted. In battle, he is a mighty instrument of titanic destructive force, unwavering and ever-valiant in his attack. The very ground trembles when he unleashes the explosive energies of his weaponry. But despite his enormous power, Metroplex suffers from extreme modesty. In fact, he often berates himself for not being able to contribute more to the Autobot cause, a comment that never fails to mystify his comrades and even causes some to shake their heads and laugh at its absurdity. Metroplex's role usually prevents him from being in the front lines, a situation he finds frustrating, but one the other Autobots understand and accept completely. Their friendship and respect for him is clear evidence of that. And they all prefer Metroplex in his current role. Knowing he's backing them up is a constant source of reassurance. As one Autobot once said, "No matter what happens to the rest of us, the war's not over as long as Metroplex is there."
Quote: Vigilance is the foundation upon which victories are built."

Blaster
First appearance: Dinobot Island
Profile: Blaster likes to turn it up loud. That goes for the way he does everything: fighting, talking, playing - living! If Blaster is involved, he makes his presence known. He is in the forefront of any situation. But aside from the things he normally does in the course of being an Autobot, he has a special passion: Rock 'n' Roll. His ability to monitor radio transmissions has exposed him to many Earthen musical styles, all of which he finds interesting. But it is rock music - good, hard and loud - that really sparks his circuits. He'd much rather be lost in the sound of a searing guitar solo than fight Decepticons. However, when called upon he will do what he must for the Autobot cause, albeit reluctantly at times. As Blaster likes to point out, "I hate changing channels in mid-song."
Quote: "When the music is rockin, I'm rollin. "

Springer
First appearance: Transformers: The Movie
Profile: Springer is a wise-cracking, easy-going, sharp-witted and somewhat caustic fighting Autobot. He has an unfailing optimism and good humor and courage beyond known bounds, and with it all, the willingness to sacrifice himself for his friends and the sake of his mission.
Quote: Strength is more than physical."

Jazz
First appearance: More Than Meets The Eye pt1
Profile: Jazz would be cruising down Bourbon Street in New Orleans or be double-parked outside a cellar club in Greenwich Village soaking up the local sounds if he weren't in the middle of a war. He's a confirmed Earthen culture junkie - he can talk fluently about ballet or break-dancing (although he prefers the latter), and he's always on the lookout for more stuff to turn on to. His knowledge of Earthen ways and his easy adaptability to Earthen environments make him the indispensable right-hand man of his commander, Optimus Prime. He's often given the most dangerous assignments, and, with characteristic coolness, usually pulls them off using something out of his seemingly bottomless bag of tricks. He'd rather dazzle you with style than accomplish a mission the easy way.
Quote: "Do it with style or don't bother doing it. "

Ironhide
First appearance: More Than Meets The Eye pt1
Profile: "Go chew on a microchip," is Ironhide's calling card. Never the sort who likes to be told what to do, he prefers action to words. He refers to what he considers excessive talking as "leaking lubricant." He's the oldest Autobot, probably the toughest, most battle-tested and certainly the orneriest. Due to his defensive capabilities, he is usually in charge of safekeeping anything or anyone of importance, and sort of acts as Commander Optimus Prime's personal bodyguard. His gruff exterior hides his kind inner soul; his concern for the protection of life, whether mechanical or biochemical, extends to the lowliest gasketroid or smallest sparrow.
Quote: High tech circuitry is no replacement for guts. "

Ratchet
First appearance: More Than Meets The Eye pt1
Profile: Ratchet was known as the best tool-and-die man on Cybertron. In his work-area bay, he can fashion anything from a pin to a cruise missile and repair most of the Autobots and their specific parts, given the right materials. His rough language and manners belie his gentle touch on the operating-assembly table. He knows how to have a good time despite his involvement in a combat group. "When does the party begin?" is his usual query after he's completed patching up his latest fallen comrade. He's more prone to giving his leader, Optimus Prime, a lot more backtalk than the other Autobots, but does his job as well as anyone.
Quote: "You break it, I'll remake it. "

Prowl
First appearance: More Than Meets The Eye pt1
Profile: He is quiet, competent, and very loyal, but perhaps his most valuable trait is his almost endless patience. Once Prowl is assigned a task, he will keep at it until it is accomplished. He works with proven facts, not imagination or guesses. If he has any doubts, he will radio Optimus Prime, his commander, before proceeding. He hates doubts in any form, and he strives to make everything he encounters reasonable and logical. He believes it only when he can explain it. On a personal level he is friendly, but not too sociable. He's a listener, not a talker, unless someone says something unreasonable. Then he will demand an explanation.
Quote: "Logic is the ultimate weapon. "

Bluestreak
First appearance: More Than Meets The Eye pt1
Profile: Conversations don't come easy when Bluestreak is around. His talent for incessant and often inane talk tends to drown out those close by, but at least his gregarious manner serves to lighten the otherwise grim situation of the Autobots. What is not widely known is the underlying reason for his endless droning: to hide the fact that he hates war. Despite his formidable weaponry and his blazing speed, he is basically not a warrior type. Autobot Commander Optimus Prime's faith in him helps sustain Bluestreak in the heat of battle. Optimus knows that Bluestreak will be forever haunted by the memory of his witnessing the total destruction of his city back on Cybertron by the Decepticons. He was the lone survivor. "There's some demons runnin' loose inside that boy," says Hound, "and sometimes I think they grab hold of him and won't let him go."
Quote: "I never met a Decepticon I didn't dislike. "

Wheeljack
First appearance: More Than Meets The Eye pt1
Profile: "That guy can build a neutron bomb out of a wristwatch and a rusty can," says Bluestreak, and that's not far from the truth. As well as the Ark fashioned the Autobots, Wheeljack is always coming up with ways to improve them, particularly their weaponry. His knack for creating wild new gadgets has earned him a "mad scientist" reputation and their deadly effectiveness has earned him the respect of friends and enemies alike. He is also the Autobot most adept at driving while in his automobile mode and has pulled off tricks that Hollywood stunt drivers haven't even dreamed of yet. He fully enjoys showing off when the opportunity presents itself.
Quote: Never do what your enemy expects you to do."

Omega Supreme
First appearance: The God Gambit
Profile: Omega Supreme is the ultimate defensive force. Although he has great strength, it is his even greater courage which truly distinguishes him. Against overwhelming odds, he will stand unwaveringly and fight with every last microchip of his mechanical being. His fellow Autobots consider him serious, even grim, but those with insight know the reason why: the enormity of the responsibility placed on Omega Supreme. He is designed specifically as the Autobots' last line of defense. It is his job to protect the Ark and anything else considered vital to the Autobot cause. He knows that should he fall in battle, chances are there will be no other Autobots left by that point to take over his role. His is a situation Omega Supreme finds both challenging and chilling. He would have it no other way.
Quote: "Unyielding resolve has no conqueror."

Brawn
First appearance: More Than Meets The Eye pt1
Profile: Brawn looks on Earth as essentially a hostile environment - and he loves it. He is the most macho of the Autobots. He delights in challenges and when he faces one he becomes fully alive. He is strong, rugged and very agile - which is why he is frequently teamed with Bumblebee when the Autobots are in a mountainous environment - but it is his enjoyment of the challenge that makes him valuable to his leader, Optimus Prime. He won't be discouraged and that helps the morale of the rest. He is hardy and enjoys a good joke, if it is not too subtle. His main fault is that he tends to be contemptuous of those not as tough as he.
Quote: Might over microchips. "

Bumblebee
First appearance: More Than Meets The Eye pt1
Profile: Bumblebee is the Autobots' little brother. He's small, eager and at times can be a bit of a smart-mouth. Yet for all his wisecracks, he obviously idolizes the bigger robots, especially Optimus and Prowl. He is useful as a messenger and a spy; he can go where other vehicles would not dare because he does not look threatening. And his relatively small size occasionally enables him to use routes not available to the others. More than anything, Bumblebee wants to be accepted, and this sometimes causes him to take chances he shouldn't.
Quote: "The least likely can be the most dangerous."

Cliffjumper
First appearance: More Than Meets The Eye pt1
Profile: "Let me at 'em" is Cliffjumper's usual response when the Autobots embark on a mission. His eagerness and daring have no equal among the Autobots. Optimus Prime knows this gung-ho trait is an expression of Cliffjumper's burning desire for vengeance on the Decepticons. Although he takes his work very seriously, Cliffjumper is full of good-natured bravado while he's doing it. He doesn't actively dislike Earth, but he considers its rough, uneven terrain a hindrance to his effectiveness, and too often is carelessly destructive. Often he is on the receiving end of a lecture from Optimus on caution and the protection of Earthen property.
Quote: "Strike first, strike fast, strike hard."

Cosmos
First appearance: Megatron's Master Plan
Profile: Rocketing around the vast gulfs of outer space might seem like fun, but Cosmos knows the truth: it gets lonely up there. Sure, he understands that every Autobot has a job to do in the battle against the Decepticons, and he accepts his without argument. But he's not always happy about it. Sometimes, to relieve the boredom of a long vigil orbiting the Earth, he'll zip down at night and scare a few humans by hovering over their back yards. He also delights in showing off his maneuverability by zig-zagging through an occasional meteor shower. But mostly he maintains his solitary orbit. At least he's comforted by one thought: he never gets stuck in any traffic jams like his auto-like brethren below.
Quote: "Reach for the stars, but never leave your friends. "

Powerglide
First appearance: Dinobot Island
Profile: Powerglide is a show-off. While most of his fellow Autobots are literally grounded by their abilities, he can take to the air, and he is exceedingly proud of that fact. He uses his ability to release brief bursts of great power to more than make up for his relatively slow flying speed. Consequently, his maneuverability is incredible. Whether putting on a show for his comrades or evading enemy fire, he delights in displaying his dazzling aerial virtuosity. And, like any showman, Powerglide only demands one thing from his audience after one of his performances - their appreciation. And he'll accept it from friend and foe alike.
Quote: "To stop me, you have to catch me first. "

Grimlock
First appearance: SOS Dinobot
Profile: The most fearsome and powerful of the Dinobots, Grimlock would gladly usurp Optimus Prime's role as Autobot Commander if he thought he could get away with it. For now, he's happy to tear into the enemy Decepticons whenever he can and wait for a more opportune moment to try for the leadership. He can be cold and merciless, and shows contempt for those he views as weak, such as humans and even some fellow Autobots. But he is a valiant warrior and his actions command respect from all who are witness to them, both friend and foe.
Quote: Among the winners, there is no room for the weak. "

Slag
First appearance: SOS Dinobot
Profile: Maybe Slag enjoys his job too much - after all, a more sensitive Autobot might regret the waste involved in reducing an enemy to a smoldering pool of liquid metal. Not Slag. If his metal hide could take the heat, Slag would swim in the puddle to celebrate. Perhaps even more than his Dinobot brethren, Slag resents the authority of Optimus Prime, and he's not too keen on the other Autobots either. He's generally considered a disruptive force and has been known to get into brawls and turn his fiery breath against his comrades. Nasty and mean-spirited are perhaps the nicest things one can say about him.
Quote: I have no need for friends, even less for enemies. "

Sludge
First appearance: SOS Dinobot
Profile: Sludge likes to make his presence known. A few steps of his incredibly lumbering legs and everyone within a three-mile radius can hear - and feel - that he's around. But his awesome physical appearance belies his unusually gentle and shy nature. Like his fellow Dinobot, Slag, he is not happy with the leadership of Optimus Prime. He feels, however, the Autobot cause is more important than any personal misgivings and so he rarely exhibits his feelings. Such is not the case when Sludge is fired to battle - he then becomes a terrifying, unstoppable force.
Quote: "Stomp your enemy, crush him under your feet. "

Snarl
First appearance: War of the Dinobots
Profile: An Autobot of few words and fewer opinions, Snarl grudgingly follows the orders of Dinobot leader Grimlock and leaves the thinking to others. He's generally unhappy and a loner, and his uncommunicative nature only adds to his feelings of isolation. Only the thrill of battle can elevate his spirits. In fact, few of his comrades experience the joyous heights that Snarl attains while locked in mortal combat. But for him war is an all too brief respite from the twin devils that haunt his miserable existence: the ungainly dinosaur form the Ark has bestowed upon him and the knowledge he may never see his beloved Cybertron again
Quote: "Only in war is there happiness."

Swoop
First appearance: War of The Dinobots
Profile: Making a spectacular descent from the sky, Swoop watches with unhidden glee as his enemies scatter in terror before his looming presence. And that's just the way he likes it because he knows fear is a more effective weapon than any equipment he carries. Fear is also his greatest friend. His ability to cause it in others is the sole comfort he derives from the form generally considered the most horrifying of all the Dinobots. Even his comrades shy away from him. And that is Swoop's tragedy. Four million years ago, when the Ark adapted his Autobot body to resemble that of a pterodactyl's, he gladly accepted the disguise as his contribution to the Autobot cause. Little did he know back then that the good-natured, kind mechanoid that he was - and still is - would be disguised as well.
Quote: "Fear can hit targets unreachable to bullets."

Gestalts:
Superion
First appearance: Key To Vector Sigma
Profile: Superion is a fierce and frightful machine. As the collective consciousness of the five Aerialbots, Air Raid, Skydive, Fireflight, Slingshot and Silverbolt, he might find it confusing and unproductive to assimilate each of his component personalities into one. Therefore, he suppresses much of what is potentially more than he can handle and directs his thinking to one primary purpose: the destruction of the Decepticons. And that's about all he's good for. Little else interests him; he's unlikely to even engage in conversation about anything else. The other Autobots take this to be a cold and aloof attitude, as if Superion held himself above them. In truth, it is the most Superion can give of himself.
Quote: "To live is to fight; to die is to stop. "

Defensor
First appearance: Revenge of Bruticus
Profile: Charged with the awesome responsibility of protecting humans from Decepticon attacks, Defensor views the people of Earth as if they were his own children. Using all his power and strength, he'll fight until his last drop of fuel is expended before he'll allow a person to be harmed. His is a kinship that defies logic; in fact, many of the other Autobots worry that Defensor undermines his own effectiveness by being so emotionally attached to humans. Inevitably, Defensor is disappointed by this cross-species friendship he tries to foster. Although he thinks of himself as one of the humans, much like a sheepdog among a flock of sheep, rarely do humans consider this hulking, mechanical alien one of them. More likely, they consider Defensor a threat, as terrifying as any Decepticon. So far, this is a bitter truth that Defensor refuses to accept.
Quote: "As long as one innocent being is threatened, none are truly free. "

Computron
First appearance: Grimlock's New Brain
Profile: Although much admired for his dedication, bravery, skill and intelligence, Computron is an unfortunate example of being too technologically advanced for his own good. Centuries ago on Cybertron the five Autobots who comprise Computron - Afterburner, Nosecone, Strafe, Lightspeed and Scattershot - agreed to apply the new engineering science of mechanical combinatics to themselves so that they could unite to form a super-Autobot to more effectively combat the Decepticons. Scattershot, however, insisted that their combination be better than anyone else's, that the contribution of each of the five component Autobots to the whole be maximized in every way. The result was not what anyone expected: Computron was created, but as he was programmed to thoroughly and exhaustively analyze the input of each of the five who comprise him, he takes several minutes to form a consensus opinion and make a decision. Any decision. Of course, without exception, the decision he makes is the right one, but very often it comes too late to make a difference. He genuinely regrets when this happens, and feels even worse that he's unable to do anything to change it. Nevertheless, he is well known for his sharp mind, and respected for it. He chooses every word with great care and precision and takes great pride in knowing that when Computron talks, everybody listens.
Quote: "Thorough data analysis is essential for the synthesis of successful strategy."
